Readings and talks with authors, publishers, illustrators, and bookstore proprietors
Union Grove is housed in a big old barnlike building featuring comfortable spaces fitted with stainless steel and copper and wood, a roaring fireplace, and the percolation of fine spirits—all making for a perfect environment in which to listen to, talk about, and think about books and writing.

I’ll be selling copies of Love Her, Love Her Not: The Hillary Paradox, edited by Joanne Bamberger, which includes my essay “Hillary Clinton, Everymother,” and the cancer survivor anthology Hopeful Grateful Strong.

Heartfelt, humorous, and powerful stories of motherhood in all its forms
A national movement, Listen To Your Mother celebrates motherhood in cities across the country in the weeks leading up to Mother’s Day. Local writers come together in staged community shows organized by local LTYM production teams. All shows are recorded and shared on the LTYMShow YouTube channel, boasting a catalog of nearly 1500 diverse stories.

Born of the creative work of mothers who publish on-line, each production is directed, produced, and performed by local communities for local communities. I’ll be sharing my story “Being Japanese” in tribute to my mother (more about her here).

Blogging for Writers: Creating Content for the Online Environment
Unlike print, the web is a fickle medium where you’re one click away from oblivion. Most users decide within 10 seconds to keep reading or to “bounce.” How do you retain readers and create a blog post or web page that’s engaging? We’ll cover blogging basics, discuss tonality and style, examine successful blogs, and delve into those alphabet-soup terms (SEO, SERP, PVs) that come with writing for the online environment.

Interview with Stephanie Nikolopoulos for the Festival blog on the upcoming event
